‘The Hug’ – current work in progress in the studio

  • For as long as I can remember, I have made sense of the world by creating art. I discovered a love for painting with watercolour and mixed media at an early age, appreciating the ever-changing and expressive nature of water and pigment on paper. I then started to introduce other media such as chalk, charcoal, pen and pencil to build texture, complimenting my art making.

  • Currently I am building a body of work using the working title ‘Moments in Watercolour’. This series of paintings will act as portals into my life as I experience it. Using watercolour and mixed media with disciplined control, I am rendering my emotional response to place, people and objects through photo realistic figurative, still life and landscape imagery. My paintings draw inspiration from the 1970s time-capsule apartment I call home here in Brisbane, the male form and gay male gaze, and my relationship to anxiety and depression. In painting images from life, I hope to share relatable experiences of home, memory, strength, weakness, love and loss.
